Sea Lungs: New Iterations (2019)

After the 8 pieces that made up the installation Sea Lungs was stolen in Venice at the end of 2017 by Omar Donia, I am recreating the series from the stencils I still have. The recreation of this series is like pulling the pieces through time and space and reclaiming them. It is at times emotional and at times exciting – ultimately it feels like closing a very unfortunate loop.

The New Iterations were shown along with the recreated 8 pieces in an exhibit at Art House 473 with Susan Mains and Jason de Caires Taylor in June 2019. While it is not exactly like having the originals back – it does feel a little like they were pulled back through space and time through the creative ether!
